Hurricane Katrina my kind of girl
We have been back from New Orleans since October and so far all we have to show for is a rather nasty foot fungus that just wont go away. The politicians just seem to focus on money to rebuild the city, I am sure most of the moronic we put into detention were released after we left the state. God help the idiots that took over when we left.
The most memorable experience was watching the 82nd Airborne picking up trash. Some from what I hear they now excel at. The funniest conversation I had at campus was with a young kid who wants to join the army after hearing that I was in the big easy he asked "did you get to see the paratroopers in action" He seemed a bit disappointed when I told him they were nothing more than glorified garbage men. they I explained that because of the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 U.S troops may not be used in civil disturbances. But the national guard is another matter.
I might be a bit jaded this is after all my last year in the military and as I reflect on my service to this country all I can do is shake my head and wonder where in the heck did we go astray.
